There is nothing quite like the taste of fresh-from-the-cob corn. But as every braces-wearing teen will tell you, removing the corn from the cob (without using your chompers) can be more trouble than it’s worth. Until now!
The simple trick to getting the corn off the cob is probably sitting in your kitchen cupboard right now. All you need is a bundt cake pan or angel food cake pan. That’s it!
The secret to easily remove corn from the cob
1. Start by using cooked corn that has been husked and the silks removed. I prefer my corn steamed. If you will be freezing the corn then I recommend blanching.
2. Place the tip of the corn in the hole of the Bundt pan and hold steady!
3. Use a sharp or serrated knife to cut the kernels off the cob starting at the top and cutting downward. The pan helps keep the corn steady while you cut and catches the kernels as they fall. This means no mess and easy cleanup!
4. If you would like, you can use the back of a butter knife to scrape the cobs and squeeze out the “corn milk” for added flavor and moisture.
Now that you know the trick, there is nothing holding you back to using fresh corn in all of your recipes! You can also freeze it for use later or eat it right of the pan (we won’t judge)! Who knew that Bundt pan would come in handy for more than just cake?
