Easter is egg season, am I right? We dye eggs pastel shades, we fill plastic eggs with surprise treats and hide them for children to find, we eat egg-shaped chocolates and candies — you know the drill. Naturally, we think of eggs in terms of eating and nutrition, but they are also a powerful ingredient in many DIY face masks.

When applied to skin, eggs provide extra beautifying protein, minerals and vitamins. The magnesium found in eggs helps to slow the aging process in skin cells, while riboflavin eradicates wrinkle-inducing toxins and free radicals. Protein keeps skin strong and resilient, and the potassium in eggs helps the skin retain moisture. So go ahead, raid your fridge, whip up a mask and take a little “me time” for yourself and your skin.
For each mask, whisk together the ingredients in a bowl and apply to a clean face. Let the mask sit for 15 minutes, unless your skin is noticeably sensitive. If you experience any stinging or discomfort, wash the mask off immediately. Once the mask has dried and you’ve soaked in all the DIY benefits, rinse the mask off, pat your skin dry, and follow up with your favorite serum and moisturizer.
Clarifying mask
- 1 raw egg white
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Honey boasts natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties, making it great for fighting acne without stripping the skin of barrier function. Lemon juice’s acidity and vitamin C help to clarify and brighten.
Hydrating mask
- 1 egg white
- 1/4 avocado
Avocado is a great moisturizing and hydrating ingredient, so your skin should feel soft and glowing after using this one.

Brightening mask
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon orange juice
- 1 teaspoon plain yogurt
Orange juice delivers a little extra vitamin C to the skin, which helps to tone and brighten, while plain yogurt nourishes dull and dry skin. Yogurt also contains probiotics that are essential for a healthy functioning moisture barrier. These good bacteria are also imperative in keeping acne-causing bacteria at bay.
