Gooey monster slime jar Halloween craft

Like it or not, kids love slime. They love making it, playing with it, and grossing people out with it. So, why fight it? Think of it as educational fun. They get to learn about chemical reactions while making a mixture that oozes and stretches and is just generally icky, which makes them love it even more.

Truth be told, it is kinda fun to play with! Get back in touch with your inner child and make some monster slime, inspired by The 36th Avenue, with your favorite kids — young and young at heart.

Using our easy to follow, step-by-step directions will make this the ideal activity for a party, playdate, or just a rainy day. If you’re worried about the mess, set up a table and your supplies in the garage or outside. Then you can relax and enjoy the process without worrying about it ending up on the floor or in your carpet.

If you’re planning a Halloween party, this should definitely be on your list of kid-approved activities. You’ll also want to multiply the recipe based on how many slime scientists you have so everyone can take some home. After all, do you really want all that slime to stay at your house? Small jars, plastic containers, or cleaned baby food jars would work well when it comes time to store it and transport it home.

Offering different colors of glitter glue and food coloring adds some variety to each person’s monster slime. Not only can the googly eyes go on the monster jar, they should definitely go in the slime to make it truly monster-like. Even better, get “real” eyeballs to add to the slime. The scarier the better!

Once the slime is made, it can be stretched and pulled and manipulated into all kinds of shapes. The more you play with it, the better it gets!

This activity definitely does need some adult supervision. And make sure hands are washed thoroughly once slime playtime has ended. Slime can last for weeks when kept in a sealed jar or plastic baggie. While this may not thrill you, the kids will love it!
