The ultimate rad dad Father’s Day gift basket

Creating the perfect Father’s Day gift can be challenging, especially if he’s the kind of guy who has everything. This Father’s Day will be my husband’s second, and our daughter is still too young to create a gift for him on her own — so it’s up to me to make him feel extra-special.

But when I started thinking about the perfect gift, I was stumped. Then I remembered joking around with him the other day and calling him a “rad dad.” That sparked an idea: a Father’s Day gift basket filled with stuff he loves and that helps him hang onto such a lofty title.

To begin, I made a short list of his many passions:

  • Games
  • Candy
  • Popcorn
  • Peanuts
  • Grilling
  • Beer
  • Gardening
  • Home projects

I then picked up a few items related to the list — for example, new tools and his favorite snacks. I put it all into a big basket that he can use to store, say, some of his beer-making supplies.

Supplies for a Father’s Day gift basket (0r bucket):

  • Tin bucket
  • Floral foam
  • “Rad dad” letters
  • Hot-glue gun and glue
  • Cork circles
  • Shape cutouts (slightly smaller than cork circles)
  • Decoupage and foam brush

Step 1:

Glue paper letters to the outside of the bucket and cutouts to the bucket.

Step 2:

Glue pieces of floral foam inside the bucket to hold items in place.

Step 3:

Apply decoupage to the cork with the foam brush.

Step 4:

Place the paper cutout on the cork, design-side up. Run your finger over the paper to smooth out bubbles. Apply decoupage over the paper and cork. Let coasters dry for 30 minutes before using.

Step 5:

Glue the small items (e.g., candy bars and snacks) to wood skewers and insert them into the floral foam. Add each item to the basket until the basket is nearly full.

Step 6:

Fill in gaps with paper towel and top the basket with candy to cover the paper towels and add a sweet touch.
