Give a winter welcome to friends, teachers, or neighbors with this simple craft, combining the homespun charm of mason jars with the crowd-pleasing yums of a tasty holiday treat. Make several snowman mason jar crafts, inspired by The Weathered Palate, to give as gifts to everyone on your casual gifting list this holiday season — you can make a large group of snowmen jars in a single evening.
The holidays are a wonderful occasion to make quick homemade gifts for the important people in your life. You are already planning to give your loved ones special gifts, but what about the other key people in your life? People who make your life run smoothly are great candidates for small gifts that let them know you appreciate their presence in your life.
When making a list of VIP giftees, start from home (babysitter, housekeeper, gardener, etc.) and work your way out from your doorstep (neighbors, mail carriers, delivery person, etc.), and then beyond to people who you interact with regularly (co-workers, gas station attendant, hairdresser, clergyperson, your child’s teacher, etc.) There’s no wrong or right list of people, but the holidays are a great excuse to let people know you care and appreciate them.
To keep it simple, choose gifts that can be made in an assembly-line style all at once, so you can work on it for an evening or two and yield several finished products. This snowman button pretzel jar is a perfect choice!
If you want to add an additional layer of homemade goodness to this project, make a special treat to fill the jars with — such as these Chocolate Kahlua Snowball cookies, or a sweet holiday mix like Muddy Buddies/Reindeer Chow.
Part of the charm of this project is found in the handmade pom-pom details, but if you want to save even more time, buy store-bought pom-poms to make snowman jars that are just as cute.

Start pom-poms
Wrap yarn around your fingers to create two pom-poms for the earmuffs. Wrap yarn around two of your fingers about 25 times.
Secure yarn
Slide yarn off hand and tie the string across the middle of the bundle of wrapped yarn.
Form and trim pom-poms
Cut the edges of both sides of the yarn bundle to form the yarn pom. Then be sure to even out the edges.
Make headband
Bend pipe cleaner in half and twist together. Twist another pipe cleaner around the folded pipe cleaner to form the headband to the ear muffs. Trim off excess if needed.
Fill mason jar
Fill the mason jar with white, yogurt covered pretzels, and put the lid back on the jar.
Form scarf
Cut 6-10 strands of red yarn approx 12” long, and tie around the “neck” of the mason jar to form the snowman scarf, tying in a knot to secure to jar.
Secure buttons
Hot glue three black buttons to front of mason jar.
Attach headband and earmuffs
Hot glue headband to the top of mason jar, and attach pom-poms on each end of the pipe cleaner headband to make the earmuffs.
The perfect gift!
